SIXTH CIRCULAR --- SIXTH CIRCULAR --- SIXTH CIRCULAR Dear participant of the international conference: ************************************* SUPERNOVA 1987A: 20 YEARS AFTER Supernovae and Gamma-Ray Bursters ************************************* to be held in: ******************************************** Aspen, Colorado, from 19 - 23 February 2007 ******************************************** Final Program: -------------- The final program has been posted on the conference web site: http://astrophysics.gsfc.nasa.gov/conferences/supernova1987a/ Please check the program for the revised schedule and let us know if you see any errors or omissions. The program will be very tight, so we remind speakers to stick to their allotted time which includes 5 min for questions. Your Presentation: ------------------ The auditorium has an LCD projector which will attach to any laptop. You can either bring your own laptop or give us the file of your presentation in either MS Powerpoint, Apple Keynote, Open Office or Acrobat PDF format on a memory stick or CD-ROM. You can also email us your presentations in any of the formats above or put it on an FTP server for us to download. Please give us your presentation as soon as you arrive and not just a few minutes before your talk to avoid delays in setting up your talk. There will also be an overhead projector and blackboards. Reception and Registration: --------------------------- A reception, including a light buffet dinner and a cash bar, will be held at the Inn at Aspen between 5-8 PM on Sunday, Feb 18. There will be a registration desk where you will be able to purchase ski passes @$50 per day. If you arrive late, you can also register on Monday morning or afterwards at the Aspen Center for Physics. Closing Dinner: --------------- Because of scheduling issues, the banquet will be held on Wednesday evening, Feb 21 (rather than the originally planned Thursday evening) at the Aspen Meadows Hotel, which is located near the Aspen Center for Physics. The banquet will cost $50.- per person paid at registration. You can also let Jane from the Aspen Center for Physics (jane@aspenphys.org) know in advance so she can charge it to your credit card. You will receive a coupon and the Meadows will also have a list with your name on it. Proceedings: ------------ Talks (review, invited and contributed) will be published in printed proceedings by the American Institute of Physics. Proceedings papers are expected to be 10 pages for Review talks, 8 pages for Invited talks, and 5 pages for Contributed talks. Instructions for proceedings papers are available on the conference web site. Unfortunately, poster papers cannot be included in the printed proceedings but will be posted on the conference web site if you provide us the electronic files. The DEADLINE FOR PROCEEDINGS PAPER SUBMISSION IS APRIL 1, 2007. Recreation: ----------- The elevation of the town is nearly 8,000 feet, so consider the effects of the altitude during your first few days, drink lots of water and don't overdo exercise. Aspen offers a wide variety of Winter sports, including downhill and cross-country skiing, ice-skating, and walking. Equipment can be rented for all activities, and instruction is also available. We have obtained ski lift tickets at a rate of $50 per day. You may purchase them at the Aspen Center for Physics during the reception at The Inn on Sunday from 5-8 PM and during your stay. If you want to get discount ski tickets prior to the conference you can send Jane Kelly an email (jane@aspenphys.org) and she will arrange for the Inn at Aspen to hold those tickets when you arrive or set them aside at your hotel. If you plan to rent skis, we will direct you to the shops that will give you a discount if you mention the conference. Travel to/from Aspen: --------------------- If you are driving from Denver, the internet maps may route you over Independence Pass. This pass is closed in the Winter! Just stay on I-70 until Glenwood Springs, where you turn off onto Highway 82 to Aspen. It's about a 4 hour drive from Denver International Airport, and it's all 4-lane except the last 2 miles into town. If you arrive at the Aspen Airport, the Inn will provide complimentary shuttle service for you. Please call them at 970-925-1500 or use airport courtesy phone for a pick up once you have arrived.
