Windows XP instructions for joining EUD wireless network

Please note that one must be running Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Pro or higher in order to use our 802.1X wireless networking authentication.

Setup

Please complete this step while you have network access (you will need to download something).
An alternative is to put the needed files on a USB flash drive.

Importing Certificates

We need to import two certificates: one which was created for you and one for the EUD Certification Authority (CA).
(Your certificate was issued by and "trusts" the EUD CA. You need to explicitly trust the EUD CA by adding it to your setup.) Please download the EUD root CA certificate from this web page (right-click). The filename is "root.der".

Installing your own ASD/EUD certificate

Overview: Double-click on your .p12 certificate and take all the defaults.
  • Double-click on the cert-<Your_Name>.p12 certificate you received via email.
  • Certificate Import Wizard window
    Click [Next].
  • File to Import
    Click [Next].
  • Password
Enter passphrase that you entered on wireless web form.
    Leave the boxes blank.
    Click [Next].
  • Certificate Store
Use already-selected radio button: "Automaticallyu select the certificate store based on the type of certificate".
    Click [Next].
  • Completing the Certificate Import Wizard
    Click [Finish].
  • "Import was successful"
    Click [OK] to dismiss window.

Installing the ASD/EUD Root CA certificate

Overview: Double-click on the root.der certificate you downloaded above and take all the defaults, except the Certificate Store.
  • Double-click on the root.der certificate you downloaded from the link above.
  • Window titled Certificate appears.
Click [Install Certificate...] (not [OK] button).
  • Certificate Import Wizard window
    Click [Next].
  • Certificate Store
Select the radio button: "Place all certificates in the following store"
    Click Browse
Select (i.e., highlight) "Trusted Root Certification Authorities".
    Click [OK].
    Click [Next].
  • Completing the Certificate Import Wizard
    Click [Finish].
  • Separate window appears titled Security Warning
Click [Yes] (responding to "Do you want to install this certificate?")
  • "Import was successful"
    Click [OK] to dismiss window.
An alternate method for importing these certificates is to use the Microsoft Management Console (mmc), as documented in an earlier version of these instructions here.
