Windows XP instructions for joining EUD wireless network
Please note that one must be running Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Pro or higher in
order to use our 802.1X wireless networking authentication.
Setup
Please complete this step while you have network access (you will
need to download something).
An alternative is to put the needed files on a USB flash drive.
Importing Certificates
We need to import two certificates: one which was created for you
and one for the EUD Certification Authority (CA).
(Your certificate was
issued by and "trusts" the EUD CA. You need to explicitly trust the
EUD CA by adding it to your setup.)
Please download the EUD root CA certificate from
this web page (right-click). The filename is "root.der".
Installing your own ASD/EUD certificate
Overview: Double-click on your .p12 certificate and take
all the defaults.
- Double-click on the cert-<Your_Name>.p12
certificate you received via email.
- Certificate Import Wizard window
Click [Next].
- File to Import
Click [Next].
- Password
Enter passphrase that you entered on wireless web form.
Leave the boxes blank.
Click [Next].
- Certificate Store
Use already-selected radio button: "Automaticallyu select the
certificate store based on the type of certificate".
Click [Next].
- Completing the Certificate Import Wizard
Click [Finish].
- "Import was successful"
Click [OK] to dismiss window.
Installing the ASD/EUD Root CA certificate
Overview: Double-click on the root.der certificate you
downloaded above and take all the defaults, except the
Certificate Store.
- Double-click on the root.der
certificate you downloaded from the link above.
- Window titled Certificate appears.
Click [Install Certificate...] (not [OK] button).
- Certificate Import Wizard window
Click [Next].
- Certificate Store
Select the radio button: "Place all certificates in the following
store"
Click Browse
Select (i.e., highlight) "Trusted Root Certification Authorities".
Click [OK].
Click [Next].
- Completing the Certificate Import Wizard
Click [Finish].
- Separate window appears titled Security Warning
Click [Yes] (responding to "Do you want to install this certificate?")
- "Import was successful"
Click [OK] to dismiss window.
An alternate method for importing these certificates is to use the
Microsoft Management Console (mmc), as documented in an earlier version
of these instructions
here.
This step sets up your Wireless Network Connections Control Panel.
