Hemispheric Asymmetries

Recall that the three GHRS observations all showed strong absorption lines prior to ingress (between phases 0.82 and 0.97).

In March 1998 there is strong absorption from phase 0.03 to 0.2 but there is NO absorption seen at phases 0.67 - 0.96.

However, in January 2001 the absorption (significantly weaker) is seen between phases 0.8 and 0.9, but not between 0.03 and 0.15
