Educational Background

Education 1983 University of Michigan PhD. in Astronomy.
Thesis: Dynamics and Evolution of CD Galaxies

1978 University of Michigan M. S. in Astronomy.

1976 University of Arizona B. S. in Astronomy and Physics.

Research Interests

Clusters of Galaxies and their Brightest Members:
I have used large and intermediate sized ground based telescopes (i.e. KPNO 0.9m, 2.1m, 4m; CTIO 1m and 4m; and McGraw Hill 1.3m) to study the dynamical evolution of clusters of galaxies with a dominant (cD) galaxy.

Young Stellar Populations in Nearby Galaxies:
I have used images from the Hubble Space Telescope and crowded field photometry techniques to investigate the stellar populations in the ionizing clusters 30 Doradus (in the LMC), NGC 595 and CC93 (both in M33).

Medium and High Redshift Groups of Galaxies:
I have used WF/PC and WFPC-2 images taken in parallel with other guaranteed time observer HST observations to investigate the properties of groups of galaxies discovered serendipitously.

Current Projects

Detector Testing of WFC3 flight candidate IR detectors.

Finding optical counterparts of X-ray point sources in NGC253 using HST archive images. (With Dr. Kimberly Weaver)

A “pilot study” with the goal of obtaining the first high quality IR spectral survey of an unbiased local AGN sample. (Dr. Kimberly Weaver is the PI).
