Present Position

Head Science Operations and Data Management Office overseeing the information technology environment within the Exporation of the Universe Division. Lead Computer Engineer and Computer Security Official for EUD.

Brief Bio

Mr. Newman started at NASA in 1989 in the Laboratory of High Energy Astrophysics managing VMS VAX clusters. Within a short time, he became involved with managing UNIX desktops running SunOS, Solaris, and DEC UNIX. He is a proponent of open systems and has influenced the division to move to Linux as it's primary operating system. Mr. Newman has been involved procuring and managing mass storage for the HEASARC archive and the division. He lead the effort to design a load balanced network topology used to support the EUD Web environment. He is highly involved in risk assessment and security planning for the division.

Prior to his employment with NASA, Mr Newman spent 10 years as a keyboardist/arranger/musical director in the music industry.
