XRS-2 PhotosArrival at USC →34 Meter Dish and Palm

A palm tree anchors the end of a squat 2-story dormitory, while a large radio dish sits behind. Sunlight pierces the low clouds to silhouette the scene. (63K JPEG)

Threatening clouds loom behind the 34 meter antenna. It's not the rainy season yet, but it will be in a couple of weeks. But we've got our rain shells and we're ready for it. The 34m antenna is the primary communication antenna for Astro-E2, shown here in stowed position. Our control room is underneath it, and the other building is a dormitory for the operations crew.
