the steel red bulk of the launcher base sits heavily on the circular track around which it will rotate. (46K JPEG)

This is the giant turntable that rotates the rocket out of the tower into launch position. The rocket is attached to a rail which is out of sight to the right in this photo. The lever arrangement on the top is for tilting the rail 12 degrees off vertical, which helps ensure that the rocket will go out over the ocean even if the control systems were to fail.
