In yet another science fiction film reference, here is ASTRO-E looking rather like the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Above the Dewar you can see the white communication antennas (one X-band, one S-band). In this photo, the solar panels are wrapped around the spacecraft as they will be during launch.
